WEST OF DUDDON SANDS OFFSHORE MET TOWER INSTALLED
Carl C. A/S has designed and manufactured a 65m offshore met tower, for the West of Duddon Sands Offshore Wind Farm, Scotland.
The tower is 65m, weighs 37 tonnes and was designed and manufactured for RES Offshore, as an output control tower for Scottish Power Renewables and DONG Energy. Due to the tower’s purpose, there was keen focus on minimising wind-flow distortions near the measurement instruments. Due to the high requirements for minimising wind-flow distortion and the effects of wind and waves, the tower is built up of slender round-steel elements at the top and larger tubular elements at the bottom.
Due to the large fatigue-inducing loads, high demands were imposed on the production process, particularly welding quality, as well as the strength of the alloy materials.
After production, the tower was conveyed to northernmost Scotland to be assembled and subsequently conveyed by ship and installed on a monopile with a platform.
